Top 5 Best Travel Articles of 2017
Happy New Year world!
As we ring in 2018 and celebrate Anew Traveller’s 3-year anniversary(!), we’re simultaneously trying to avoid the frigid temperatures outside (why so cold, Canada??). So with piles of blankets and mugs of hot chocolate we’re taking a look back at the best travel articles — the ones you loved the most from us in 2017!
#1: Three Days, Three Cities: Belgium’s Brussels, Ghent and Bruges
“Three cities in three days? It may sound crazy, but it’s certainly not impossible. Although you may have to pick and choose the sights you want to see, a long weekend is the perfect length of time to get a taste of Belgium’s rich history and culture. Here’s a guide to get you started.” Read the full Belgium itinerary here.
#2: Explore the World’s 4 Remaining Inhabited Bridges
“Imagine living in a bridge. Eating in one. Shopping in one. No, I’m not describing some type of modern troll-like fantasy. Believe it or not, there was a time when the notion of inhabited bridges was a popular one, prompting rapid construction of beautiful structures across Europe. Today, the idea is being revisited as an attractive option for investors and residents alike.” Read the full article on the world’s 4 remaining inhabited bridges here.
#3: How To Maximize Your Travel Rewards Credit Card
“A travel rewards credit card is an incredibly powerful tool to both help you save money and give you peace of mind while travelling. Many people underestimate the benefits of travel credit cards, but with the right one, you can nab lucrative signup bonuses, save money on travel insurance and related expenditures, benefit from generous rewards programs, and get access to VIP airport lounges worldwide.” Read the full article on Canada’s top travel rewards credit card.
#4: The Colectivo: Exploring the Riviera Maya Like a Local
“The Riviera Maya is a playground for international and Mexican tourists alike. With so much to do, it can be hard to decide which activities to spend your precious time and money on. These decisions are made all the more difficult by the expensive nature of excursions shuttling you between your hotel and destination. Many companies take advantage of the fact that non-locals — unfamiliar with transportation options — default to convenient yet expensive brand name excursions with transportation included.
Our hotel presented us with an alternative: the colectivo. Different staff members offered us varying bits of information, but we soon pieced together a clear picture of how the system works. The colectivo system quickly became the backbone of our vacation in the Riviera Maya, both as a practical method of transportation and a means of getting a better glimpse of local culture.” Read the full article on how to explore the Riviera Maya like a local.
#5: Top 10 Beaches in Canada from East to West
“The Victoria Day long weekend marks the unofficial start of summer for many Canadians. A 3-day weekend spent sipping summery drinks, grilling on the barbecue, and relaxing in the sun brings two thoughts to mind: how many weeks until summer really starts? And what are our plans?!
You may not have to travel as far as you think to enjoy the great outdoors this coming season. Canada is home to endless beaches perfect for whiling away the dog days of summer. We’re heading east to west across Canada to share some of the country’s top sandy oases. Our goal: getting you inspired to begin planning your upcoming summer getaway.” Read the full article on the top 10 beaches in Canada.
